Cagnina, not to be confused with the Dog, native grapes grown in Ravenna, probably comes from Istria, transplanted in the Byzantine era came from Dalmatia when large loads of limestone to build the impressive monuments of Ravenna.
This is most likely the grape Refosco, identifiable by its characteristic red stalk, locally called earth.
Its funny name seems to derive from the fact that dogs, who followed the peasants to work in the vineyards, I like nibbling the grapes very sweet.
